The collection consists of papers of Bette B. Anderson from 1977-1980. The papers include general correspondence from the public or friends, chronological files (1977-1978) containing copies of Anderson's outgoing correspondence as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, appointment books (1977-1980), photographs, clippings, and speeches (1977-1980) given by Anderson to various clubs and organizations or as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury. The materials document Anderson's duties in the Treasury Department during President Carter's administration and her interest in finance and banking. In her position, she had responsibility for Treasury's Office of Administration; the Office of Enforcement and Operations; the U.S. Secret Service; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; the U.S. Customs Service; the Bureau of the Mint; the Bureau of Engraving and Printing; the Bureau of Government Financial Operations; the Officer of the Treasurer of the United States; and the Savings Bond Program. A highlight of her tenure was the minting of the Susan B. Anthony dollar.
